• Sustainable Solutions.

Cooking with the power of the sun

Providing nutritious meals is an important part of our work in Uganda. Our solar-powered kitchens offer a sustainable way to cook for large groups of children while reducing dependence on charcoal and firewood and lowering recurring cooking costs.

  • The Story Behind it.

    From community need to action

In November 2024, Daniel Schlegel joined our 22STARS Impact Trip in Uganda, where he heard directly from our communities about the need for more sustainable cooking solutions. This aligned perfectly with the mission of the Daniel Schlegel Umweltstiftung, which became the major donor behind our solar-powered kitchen initiative and helped turn a locally identified need into a practical, long-term solution.

    Our Impact.

    4 solar-powered kitchens

With the support of the Daniel Schlegel Umweltstiftung, we invested in solar-powered kitchens at 2 schools and our 2 community centres, creating practical renewable-energy solutions that reduce the use of charcoal and firewood while supporting the preparation of meals for children and families.

    Long-Term Impact

Infrastructure that can serve communities for years.

  • Beyond the kitchen.

Our centres are powered by the sun too

Our commitment to renewable energy goes beyond cooking. Our 22STARS community centres in Kampala and Jinja also run on solar power, made possible by individual donors, providing reliable electricity for lighting, computers, educational activities and our daily programmes.

    Our Current Need.

Help us keep the lights on

Solar systems are a long-term investment, but their batteries eventually need replacing. The batteries powering our community centres are now ageing, and we are looking for support to renew them and keep our centres, computers and programmes reliably powered by solar energy for years to come.

  • More Than Solar Energy.

    Voices from the community

The people who use these kitchens can tell their story best. In this video, children, parents and community members share what the solar-powered kitchen means to them and thank the donors who made it possible.
