    The board follows the advice from our Ugandan Team on the ground and makes sure that it matches with the budget and mission of the Foundation. The tasks of the board are done unpaid, additionally each board member sponsors several children themselves.

    Anita Vetter

    German Copy-Writer

     

    Anita is sponsoring already a child from 22STARS since years. In 2019 she then finally came to Uganda for the first time, September second time and beginning of 2020 it was already her third time. You can say she fell in love with Uganda! Ani is helping us out with our copy and translations!

    Lucy Mueller

    Eye Program

     

    Lucy volunteered for us in Uganda for 3 months and since then she helps us out online for our Eye Program. She has been send by our partner WirHelfenSehen to Uganda to help us out at our Eye Program and accompany our team to the eye hospital! Lucy did an apprenticeship as an optician before he studies and wanted to gain new experiences in her practical semester.

    Jessica Packy

    German Translations

     

    Jessica was born in Austria. With her open mind and heart, she likes to explore foreign countries and learn from their cultures. Besides traveling, music plays an essential role in her life as she is a huge fan of live concerts. After finishing her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, she started working as a Team Assistant in an IT company. She likes to dedicate her time to bring joy into this world with the mission to support people in need.

    Marlo Verket

    English Translations

     

    Marlo comes from California and is currently living in Germany. When she heard about 22STARS foundation from Steffi, she knew that she had to check it out and immediately signed up for the social impact trip in February 2020. Visiting Uganda was a great reminder to stay curious and she cannot wait to visit again.

    Andreia Alferes

    Portugese Translations

     

    Andreia is Portuguese and lives near Lisbon. She has a master's degree in work psychology, human resources and organizations and is a consultant. She was a girl scout from 9 to 22 and always participated in several volunteer actions in her life. She loves to help and feel useful in the smallest things.

    Design

     

    Inês is Portuguese and she lives in Lisbon. She strongly believes that everything is better when you live by the sea. She is a designer and loves everything crafty. She has been a designer volunteer for a while now and it really brings her joy to help make an impact with her work. She believes that all of us could play an important part of each others lives everyday if we treat each others rightfully and respectfully.

    Emilija Bogoevska

    Design

     

    Emilija is from North Macedonia and lived and worked in its capital, Skopje, as a lawyer for 12 years after graduating from the local university. She is passionate about discovering new cultures and cuisines,and she enjoys nature, exercising and traveling. Recently, she moved to Amsterdam with her partner. She has faith in small changes, as they can make a big difference, and she believes that every individual contribution makes the world a better place.

    Elena Corio

    Italian Translation

     

    Elena is an Architect and she was born in Italy. Nomad inside, she first moved to Germany and then to Austria (Vienna), to work in the field of sustainable and affordable buildings. Besides her passion for Art, she likes dancing, being in contact with Nature and travelling. She is always looking for ways to help make the world a better place for everyone. Her dream is to travel outside Europe and to combine her vacation with volunteering abroad.

    Jennifer Thomson

    Design

     

    At age 6 Jenny and her family left Canada for the highlands of Papua New Guinea; for 5 years she experienced a completely different way of life and gained a broad worldview. It is her goal to help others live healthily and with dignity, and she would like to help facilitate access to environmental (and other) education for local people in developing countries. Jenny loves nature and works as an Environmental Project Manager. She greatly enjoys travelling and practicing her wildlife photography in Africa.

    Licia comes from Portugal.She loves sports, languages and to connect with people coming from all over the world. Her first volunteer experience was to work with refugees in Switzerland, and she has never stopped making a difference since, to help create a more equal world.

    Copy-Writer

     

    Jamie is originally from California, and currently lives in the Netherlands. Jamie has a longstanding history of volunteer and service work, aiding communities both locally and globally. At a very young age, she developed a passion to help and advocate for marginalized populations. This passion led her to earned a master’s degree in Sociology, focusing on public policy interventions for social issues and international human trafficking.

    Karin Van Mierlo

    Photographer

     

    Karin met 22STARS founder Stella on the Nomad Cruise in 2016 and has since then been sponsoring Angel Anek. In 2018 Karin joined the social workation in Uganda and that made it even more tangible for her. She got to meet Angel and her family which was a wonderful experience for both. Education is the birthright of every kid on the planet. Karin made amazing pictures during this trip which you find all over our website!

    Cynthia Paola Ortiz García

    Cynthia is currently living in Monterrey, Mexico. She loves reading and traveling to get to know other cultures and places. This has been one of her first volunteering experiences and she really enjoyed it. She strongly believes that if each one of us tries to do small things to support admirable causes, we can all make a difference in this world.

    Alisa is an American living in The Netherlands. She moved with work originally and decided to stay. Living in Europe makes traveling much easier which is something she loves! She is delighted to be supporting the 22Stars Foundation and enjoys that warm fuzzy feeling of being a part of such a good cause.

    Susan Laker

     

    Founder & Project Leader, Kampala

     

    Susan is a phenomenal woman, who proves that nothing is impossible. Susan is a survivor of cancer and tuberculosis, and is HIV positive. At the age of 13, Susan became pregnant. But these obstacles did not stop her! When she became too weak to crush stones in the quarry with her children, she started making jewellery. Aidah and Stella (together with Susan they tun 22STARS) became back in 2009 her first customers. With the money Susan earned, she went back to school! Susan learned English and when she met Stella again in 2012 she told her to help her set up a webshop for her jewelry (22stars) to sell abroad. A couple of years later we started the foundation of which Susan is the project manager in Kampala and helps many more women and children. Susan has three children, aged 19,21 and 23. Susan loves cooking, dancing and making jokes.

    Stella Airoldi

     

    Founder & Project Manager, partly Remote and in Uganda

     

    Stella was born in Germany, but grew up in the Netherlands, where she studied International Law. Stella went on to receive an advanced master's degree in Human Rights and Democracy. Through Stella’s experience and education, she gained a clear understanding of the importance to improve developmental aid in order to maximise the benefits seen in local communities. This is how 22STARS was born. Stella rents out her home in Europe, leading a basic nomad lifestyle, thereby devoting her time to helping people in need. Stella spends about 5 months of a year in Uganda. Stella loves sleeping under the stars and calls herself a Social Impact Nomad.

    Aidah Wafula

     

    Founder & Project Leader, Jinja

     

    In 2009, Aidah was working in an AIDS Information Center, where she met Stella. Aidah introduced Stella to Susan, and translated for the two ladies, until Susan became fluent in English. Aidah is the Project Manager at our Jinja location, in one of the most impoverished areas, called Danida. Aidah and her family were born in Danida, but Aidah was able to escape poverty and went to school as a child. Now she has a deep urge to help others in need, who were less fortunate than herself. Aidah is married to David Wafula, who also works for 22STARS. Aidah has four children, and enjoys singing, dancing, and making jewellery and clothes.

    Francesca Giovannini

     

    Virtual Assistant, Remote since 2018

     

    Francesca is a Italian change-maker. She grew up in Milan, Italy, where she obtained a Bachelor degree in Literature and History. After traveling to SouthEast Asia, she decided to help people out of poverty. Leading her to earn her master’s degree in International Relations, with a focus on child protection. She then started working for various NGOs and UN agencies across the globe, namely Tanzania, Kenya, Colombia and Nepal. After falling in love with South America during her travels in 2017, Francesca decided to become a digital nomad, and she has been working since January 2018 for the Foundation 22Stars, mostly located in Central and South America.

    Basalirwa Nicholas

     

    Small Business Trainer, Kampala and Jinja since 2017

     

    Basalirwa Nicholas was born in Uganda. He is the Founder and Business Growth and Strategist Manager of Entrepreneurs Hand Uganda (EHU), and Ask Nicholas Tours and Travel, respectively. Since 2017, Nicholas has worked at both locations of the Foundation. He is currently helping us with our Economic Development Program for our families, and handles the Micro Loans and our Small Business Trainings. Nicholas’ strong passion for entrepreneurship and it’s potential for positive social and community impacts pushed him to enroll for his bachelor's in Business Administration. Nicholas loves football, cricket, dancing, volleyball, climbing, hiking, and travelling.

    David Wafula

     

    Project Coordinator, Kampala and Jinja since 2020

     

    Since the beginning of 22STARS, Pastor David Wafula has been our prime mover, helping to connect us all during our early stages. Pastor David Wafula earned a bachelor’s degree in Theology and a master's degree in Organizational Leadership and Management, and is the husband of our Project Manager, Aidah Wafula. Since April 2020, David joined our team, assisting our project managers in both Kampala and Jinja. We are very happy to have David with us, and we look forward to the positive impacts his expertise will bring to 22STARS! In David’s free time, he enjoys singing and making people laugh. Location: Jinja.

    Peace Elizabeth

     

    Entertainer since 2019, Project Assistant, Kampala since 2022

     

    Peace is the daughter of Susan Laker, and has been the first sponsored child of the Foundation. She is a very enthusiastic and outgoing person, who enjoys helping us with after school activities during her holidays. She loves to dance and sing. Since 2022 Peace is also assisting Susan in all kind of managing tasks that need to be done in Kampala. Location: Kampala.

    Tech Nerd, Kampala

    Richard has two medical degrees, and owns a small pharmacy in Acholi Quarters. Richard helps treat our children when they are ill. Location: Kampala.

    Masika is sponsored and goes to S-2 boarding school. On her holidays, she helps out by washing dishes and cooking for us. Masika is always smiling and enjoys reading a lot. Location: Kampala.

    Watmon Joel is currently in his last year of university and he is also among the sponsored youngsters of 22STARS. Watmon is teaching 6 days a week for 2 hours a day the children computer skills. He teaches groups of 24 children at a time.

    Stefanie Oeffner

    Ambassador Global

     

    Steffi was born in Germany. She enjoys traveling and loves to help people. Steffi started sponsoring a child in 2017 and joined one of the Retreats for Digital Nomads in March 2018 and fell in love with the country. Her passion for Uganda is so contagious that her community also wanted to come to Uganda. Hence since 2019 Steffi is co-hosting Social Impact Trips to Uganda.

    Nick was born in Germany, and is the boyfriend of Stefanie Oeffner. He loves traveling as much as she does, and hosted a show around Germany called "6 Jahre Weltreise, die geilste luecke im Lebenslauf". On this show, Stefanie was able to come on stage and to talk about Uganda and the foundation, which enabled us to reach a significant amount of new sponsors and supporters for 22STARS!

    Ed is a photographer who lives in Uganda. Ed has been with 22STARS since the beginning, when we had just 20 kids sponsored and has been with our foundation ever since.     Ann-Kristin lives in Germany and she is a professional photographer. She visited us in Uganda on a Social Impact Trip in February 2020. Ann-Kristin fell in Love with the county and the people.     Ronald is a lawyer from Germany and has been among the first sponsors of a child in Uganda, even before the Foundation was officially registered. He met Founder Stella on the first Nomad Cruise.     In November 2017, Anne came to Uganda to visit our projects and meet the children she had been sponsoring for a few years now. Anne is a very sporty person and in the summer months she loves to go hiking, and swimming in the sea, and during the winter months you can find her on skis, in the Swiss Alps.

    Rüdiger Walzer

    Ruediger heard for the first time about 22STARS during a Podcast from his son Daniel Walzer. Not much later his wife was selling the 22STARS jewellery in their optical shop and Ruediger decided to come together with his sons to Uganda to help out on the eye program. He started his own foundation called "Wir-Helfen-Sehen" to help us out even more!

    Alex Schledewitz

    Alexander is originally from Russia, and currently lives in Germany. In 2017, Alexander visited us in Uganda, on a Social Impact Workation. Afterwards he set up a group called "Teller Fuer Teller" to help us to get monthly donations that are used to feed our children in Kampala and Jinja. Without our wonderful ambassadors, like Alexander, 22STARS would not be able to provide such necessities as food to our children.

    Lisa Wilhelm joined the Social Impact Trip to Uganda that was hosted by Stella and Steffi, in May 2019. Lisa decided to return to Uganda 10 months later for her second Social Impact Trip. Additionally, Lisa has been selling tons of 22STARS jewellery to her friends and colleagues, and continues to help us out wherever she can! We love you, Lisa!

    George has been assisting with our project since its inception. He is a dance artist, yogi, acro-yogi, skate instructor and enjoys photography. George wants to inspire young people, by showing the children how to do hip-hop dance moves, giving yoga classes to the children, and taking amazing pictures!

    Lianne Schulte

    Lianne Schulte is a model at Maxmodel. When Lianne’s friend, Stella, told her about 22STARS, Lianne was so enthusiastic that she offered the use of her fashion network to help with the first photoshoots, and hence becoming the first 22STARS model. In November 2012, Stella invited Lianne to join her on a trip to Uganda, where she fell in love with the country and its people. Lianne loves being on the waves on a sunny day.

    Anja Greszik

    For a few years now, Anja Greszik, together with her friend Ani, has been sponsoring our twins in Kampala. She also visited us in Uganda and has been promoting us all around Germany. Last winter, Anja sold our 22STARS jewellery, in the freezing cold, at a winter market in Hamburg! Anja is a journalist, social media poet & consultant, and loves music and going to festivals.

    Upon Lisa Bauer’s first visit to Uganda in 2019, she fell in love with the people of Uganda and also with the paper beaded jewellery made by our artisans. Lisa has given jewellery workshops in Germany where she shared our story and raised funds for our cause. Lisa is a creative soul herself and loves being outside. We are very thankful for Lisa, and for all she continues to do for us.

    Klaus Friedhelm Muller

    Secretary

     

    Klaus F. Müller is a German dentist and European pioneer of modern dental implantology. Privately, he is concerned with the art and architecture of historicism and he is an avid ultralight pilot. Klaus was supporting 22STARS from the beginning and was the first to support two boys with school fees, after hearing their stories. Klaus visited 22STARS in Uganda in November 2017.

    Daniel Walzer

    Vice Chair

     

    Daniel comes from South of Germany and has a passion for traveling and helping people. He is sponsoring a child since October 2016 and came to Uganda in March 2018 and June 2019 to visit the projects of 22STARS. Together with his father he started also the WirHelfenSehen Foundation to help people with their eye side.

    Romana is living in the Netherlands but comes from German/Italian parents. Romana loves to bring people together. She loves kids and even published her own book for children called Pipke and Popke. She is a big fan of 22STARS from the very first second she was also among the first people to start sponsoring children. Romana visited the 22STARS projects herself in March 2016.

    Stella Airoldi

    Executive Director​

     

    Stella has a background in International Law, but changed her career after she fell in love with Uganda. Stella rents out her apartment in Holland and lives a basic nomad lifestyle since 5 years. Stella is about 5 months a year in Uganda and the other 7 months she spends all over the world: frequently speaking at conferences about making a Social Impact and working remotely. Stella loves sleeping under the stars and calls herself a Social Impact Nomad.

1. Personal information 22STARS FOUNDATION collects

Information We Collect


To sponsor a specific child long-term, you must provide us with certain information, such as your name, email address, payment information, and the name of the child that you like to sponsor. This is necessary as we will send you regular updates with regards to the child that you sponsor and or our ongoing project. You may also choose to provide us with additional personal information if you contact us directly. 

We treat your information very confidential. If you like to be an anonymous sponsor of a child, or make an anonymous donation to one of our causes, we will not publish your name related to the cause or specific child anywhere. 

If you like to sponsor a child publicly we will put your name on our website and social media in relation to the specific child you sponsor or cause you made a donation to. We don’t publish any other details of you and don’t give your contact details to anyone outside of our organization, neither the child that you sponsor will receive your contact details.  

To make a general donation, you do not have to provide us with any data and hence can send us money which we treat as an absolute anonymous donation. 

2. The legal bases we rely on to collect, use, and share personal information

Why We Need Your Information and How We Use It

We rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:
•	as needed to provide our services, such as when we use your information to send you emails and updates with regard to the child that you sponsor, to settle disputes, or to provide support;
•	when you have provided your affirmative consent, which you may revoke at any time, such as by signing up for my mailing list;
•	if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your donation if required by tax law; and
•	as necessary for the purpose of our legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as providing and improving our services. We use your information to provide the services you requested and in our legitimate interest to improve our services. 
	

3. The third parties with whom we share personal information

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Information about our sponsors is important to our foundation in order to send regularly reports about the sponsored children and in order to send out the new payment for future school terms. We share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:
•	Service providers. We engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to our website. We will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.
•	Foundation transfers. If we stop or merge our foundation, we may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law. 
•	Compliance with laws. We may collect, use, retain, and share your information if we have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce our agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of our customers, or others.

4. The length of time we keep personal information

Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with our services and as described in our Privacy Policy. However, we may also be required to retain this information to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements. We generally keep your data for the following time period: 4 years.

Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU

We may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. As a result, we may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. If we are deemed to transfer information about you outside of the EU, we rely on Privacy Shield as the legal basis for the transfer, as Google Cloud is Privacy Shield certified.

6. Our donor’s rights regarding our use of their personal information and our contact details

Your Rights

If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. We describe these rights below:
•	Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you by contacting us using the contact information below. 
•	Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict our use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where we are required to store data for legal reasons) we will generally delete your personal information upon request.

You can object to (i) our processing of some of your information based on our legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from us after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, we will delete your personal information unless we have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.

7. Our Sponsor Child Privacy

Respecting the privacy of our sponsor children and their families is a key element of our work. 22STARS Foundation extends the same attitude of respect and confidentiality to our sponsor children as given to their sponsors.

All pictures on www.foundation22stars.org are taken by the 22STARS Foundation with permission of the children and their parents and care-takers. In keeping with our mission, we welcome sponsors to share the picture of their sponsored child and our projects for the purpose of sharing our story with their friends and to encourage others to also participate in our causes. This does not cover commercial use of our materials. Unless otherwise stated, the copyright and other rights on all material published on www.foundation22stars.org belongs to the 22STARS Foundation.

3.	Disclaimer of liability

Every precaution has been taken by the 22STARS Foundation to ensure that the content of this site is accurate, legally correct and ethical. 

Whilst all reasonable efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy of content, no responsibility can be taken for any error or omission, nor can the 22STARS Foundation assume any liability for the content of websites linked to our site.
Should the 22STARS Foundation receive any complaint with regard to third party material on our site, we will review the matter and remove material at our sole discretion. We will have no further liability to either party in such instance.

4.	Payments

22STARS Foundation accepts PayPal payments, direct bank transfers and donations through the specific campaigns set up for the 22STARS Foundation on Donorbox and GoFundMe as acceptable methods of payment.

6.	Long-term sponsors of a child

If you like to become a long-term sponsor of one of our children we require your name and email address in order to send you all the information with regards to your child. Unless you like to be anonymous we publish your name on our website and or our social media channels. 

7.	 Cancellations of long-term sponsorships of the children

You can cancel any time your donation subscription to us and stop sponsoring your child. We would appreciate if you let us know immediately when you have the attention to stop the sponsorship, so that we are able to find a new long-term sponsor for the specific child. If 22STARS FOUDNATION has to stop the sponsorship with a certain child we will inform you straight ahead and we will find another child for you that you can continue sponsoring through his/her education. 

8.	Right to reallocate funds

The 22STARS foundation reserves the right to reallocate funds when necessary. Funds designated towards the support of a specific sponsor child or towards a specific project may at times need to be redirected. For example, if a change in the security situation makes the completion of a project unsafe, funds will be reallocated as appropriate. We work to avoid the reallocation of funds and only do so when necessary.


9.	Gofundme Campaign

By setting up a GOFUNDME campaign for the 22STARS foundation and using pictures and text of the 22STARS foundation, you must have prior agreement and approval of the 22STARS foundation to do so. 10.	Communication 

If you contact us via our website or have opted in other circumstances for us to contact you via e-mail, we will communicate with you using the e-mail address you have provided. We will assume that your e-mail address is correct and that you understand the risks associated with using this form of communication. 

11.	Applicable Law

Dutch law governs these Terms and Conditions to the fullest extent allowable. Any disputes in connection with the 22STARS foundation or these Terms and Conditions will be initiated in the Courts of Breda where exclusive jurisdiction and venue reside. If a court or any other appropriate authority finds any portion of this document to be invalid, the remainder will remain in full force and effect. 
 
If you do not accept these Terms and Conditions in full, you must stop using this site immediately. We reserve the right to prevent you accessing this site, without prejudice to any of our other rights, if we consider that you have contravened our Policy on Privacy and Use of Information or any of these Terms and Conditions.


From time to time, the 22STARS foundation may need to change its Terms and Conditions because of changes in its foundation, or in its attempts to serve your needs better. 22STARS foundation will always publish the current terms on our website and notify you of this.
