These 4 women and 2 men are busy for the Foundation from within Uganda and abroad seven days a week!

    Susan Laker

    Project Manager

    in Kampala Uganda

Susan is a phenomenal woman, who proves that nothing is impossible. Susan is a survivor of cancer and tuberculosis, and is HIV positive. At the age of 13, Susan became pregnant. But these obstacles did not stop her! When she became too weak to crush stones in the quarry with her children, she started making jewellery. Aidah and Stella (together with Susan they tun 22STARS) became back in 2009 her first customers. With the money Susan earned, she went back to school! Susan learned English and when she met Stella again in 2012 she told her to help her set up a webshop for her jewelry (22stars) to sell abroad. A couple of years later we started the foundation of which Susan is the project manager in Kampala and helps many more women and children. Susan has three children, aged 19,21 and 23. Susan loves cooking, dancing and making jokes.

Stella was born in Germany, but grew up in the Netherlands, where she studied International Law. Stella went on to receive an advanced master's degree in Human Rights and Democracy. Through Stella’s experience and education, she gained a clear understanding of the importance to improve developmental aid in order to maximise the benefits seen in local communities. This is how 22STARS was born. Stella rents out her home in Europe, leading a basic nomad lifestyle, thereby devoting her time to helping people in need. Stella spends about 5 months of a year in Uganda. Stella loves sleeping under the stars and calls herself a Social Impact Nomad.

    Aidah Wafula

In 2009, Aidah was working in an AIDS Information Center, where she met Stella. Aidah introduced Stella to Susan, and translated for the two ladies, until Susan became fluent in English. Aidah is the Project Manager at our Jinja location, in one of the most impoverished areas, called Danida. Aidah and her family were born in Danida, but Aidah was able to escape poverty and went to school as a child. Now she has a deep urge to help others in need, who were less fortunate than herself. Aidah is married to David Wafula, who also works for 22STARS. Aidah has four children, and enjoys singing, dancing, and making jewellery and clothes.
