    At 22STARS, we believe that supporting a child also means strengthening the family and community around them. Education can transform a child’s future, but families also need opportunities to earn an income, build savings and become more financially independent.

    That is why entrepreneurship has been part of our community-based approach for many years.

  • Our Strenght.

    From an idea to an income.

    Through our local community centres in Kampala and Jinja, parents and young adults receive support to start and grow small businesses. Depending on their skills and circumstances, these businesses can range from tailoring, jewellery making and handicrafts to food stalls, small shops and other local enterprises.

    Our approach goes beyond simply providing money. Participants are encouraged to develop business skills, save, reinvest their profits and take responsibility for gradually strengthening their own livelihoods.

    Savings groups also help community members build financial resilience together.

    Many of the parents participating in our programmes are caregivers of children supported through 22STARS. When their businesses grow, the benefits therefore reach far beyond one entrepreneur.

    Additional household income can contribute towards food, rent, healthcare, school requirements and greater financial security.

    22stars is not built from an office in Europe. It is built in Uganda.

    Susan Laker and Aidah Wafula lead our work on the ground, working closely with families, schools, and communities every day. Together with Stella Airoldi, who has been traveling between Europe and Uganda since 2009, 22stars was built as a bridge between local leadership and global support.

    We don’t run projects from afar. We build them together. Locally led. Community shaped. Globally supported.
